EURO 2020 Transition

The Union of European Football Associations is the organizer for EURO 2021. This event with be the 16th edition of its nature. This, however, is a different time in the world as a whole.

The outbreak of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has caused many national and international events to be cancelled or postponed. The issue with the pandemic itself is the rapid spread of infection and the ease that the virus spreads. The pandemic has left the world on edge, but has enforced so many social distancing rules.

The major reason for the postponing of sporting events is the close contact that the players interact. Because there is currently no vaccine or cure in sight, the way to combat the spread of the virus has been the quarantine and social distancing regulations. Any general sporting event with ideally two teams competing, would be in violation of social distancing guidelines.

EURO 2021 would be a definite violation due to the number of teams competing. There will be a total of twenty four teams competing in EURO 2021. Unfortunately, EURO 2020 was unable to be performed due to the pandemic, and has since been renamed. While twenty teams are already solidified in their grouping for competition, the qualifying rounds are still underway. They have been temporarily postponed also, but are set to take place when safety is assured. The overall competition is set to begin on June 11, 2021 through July 11, 2021. The competition will still be hosted across various cities in Europe.
